There is a moment between seasons when the days don't quite know what they want to be. Cool in the morning, warmer by afternoon, and calling for another layer by evening.
When we first saw this Brunella collection, what surprised us most was how different it felt from anything we had seen from them before.
We know Brunella for linen, light, relaxed and beautifully textured. This collection still has that unmistakable Brunella feeling, but the fabrics take us somewhere new.
There is soft wool, denser weaves, velvety textures, warm gold and yellow tones and the occasional glimmer of a very fine metallic thread.
At first glance, some of the fabrics look as though they might feel quite heavy. Then you pick them up.
They have substance and structure, but they aren't bulky. They still move, they're breathable and they're easy to layer.
For us, that's what makes them so interesting for the seasons in between.
It starts with the fabric
Before a Brunella piece becomes a dress, jacket or pair of trousers, there is the fabric. The artisans experiment with different weaves, textures and combinations, often creating many variations before finding the one that feels right.
Small changes can completely alter the way a fabric falls, moves and feels against the body. This collection feels like a beautiful example of that experimentation. Each of these new fabrics has its own character.
MEET Lana Cotta
Lana Cotta is 100% wool, with a soft, dense texture that reminds us a little of felted wool.
It has enough structure to hold the shape of the garment beautifully, but there's still movement when you wear it. What surprised us most was that it doesn't feel as heavy as it looks.
Wool is naturally insulating and can absorb and release moisture vapour, helping the wearer remain comfortable as temperatures change.
It makes Lana Cotta particularly lovely through winter, while still being something we'd reach for on cooler autumn and spring days.
It's warm without feeling bulky and very easy to layer exactly what you want when the temperature might change throughout the day.
Discover Tela Lapponia
Tela Lapponia is made from 79% linen, 17% cotton and 4% polyester. It's closely woven, giving it more substance and coverage than Brunella's very light summer linens while still retaining breathability.
But what we really love is what happens when you look closely.
Gold runs throughout the fabric. It isn't glittery or shiny; instead, it holds its own amongst the other colours, bringing warmth and depth to the weave.
Then there is a very fine metallic thread woven throughout. Every now and then, as the fabric moves, it catches the light and creates the smallest hint of shine.
It's subtle, and that's what makes it beautiful.
Explore Riga Lapponia
Riga Lapponia shares the same composition of 79% linen, 17% cotton and 4% polyester, with a similarly substantial, closely woven feel.
But yellow stripes running throughout give this fabric its own personality.
Like Tela Lapponia, a very fine metallic thread is woven through the fabric, creating a subtle glimmer when it catches the light.
These details mean the piece doesn't need much else. Worn simply during the day, the texture does the talking. Add jewellery, leather and a different shoe for dinner and suddenly those little details feel a little more special.
Feel Tela Sami
Tela Sami takes us somewhere different again.
Made from 70% cotton and 30% linen, its defining feature is its almost velvety outer texture.
Rather than relying on stripe or shine, it's the surface itself that gives Tela Sami its character.
It's something we particularly love about Brunella: the fabric isn't simply what the garment is made from. The fabric becomes part of the design.
A Brunella we hadn't seen before
Perhaps that's what we love most about this collection.
It surprised us.
The fabrics are richer and more structured. There's wool, velvety texture, stripe, gold and the smallest touch of metallic shine.
But everything we love about Brunella is still there movement, comfort and a genuine appreciation for beautiful fabric.
It feels like a different side of Brunella, without losing what makes their pieces feel so distinctly their own.
Made for the weather in between
We can see these fabrics being worn through autumn, winter and spring, as well as on cooler evenings and for night events throughout the year.
They're more substantial than Brunella's lightest summer linens and none are see-through, but they're still breathable, comfortable and easy to layer.
That's what trans-seasonal means to us.
Not a piece that's supposedly made for every possible temperature, but something that gives you flexibility.
Add another layer on a cold morning. Remove it when the afternoon warms up. Add it again when the evening cools.

We wouldn't consider them winter-only fabrics. We see them working particularly well across autumn, winter and spring, as well as on cooler evenings throughout the year. Their breathability and ability to be layered make them useful when temperatures change throughout the day.
Lana Cotta is a dense, structured 100% wool fabric, but it doesn't feel as heavy or bulky as you might expect when looking at it. It still allows for movement and is particularly easy to layer.
